Fort Meigs Ohio’s War of 1812 Battlefield

Take a step back in time and learn how Perrysburg played a pivotal role in the War of 1812. Fort Meigs is a reconstructed wooden walled fort that stands on the site of the original structure. The staff and reenactors share tales and accounts of the history of Ohio and the museum houses a variety of artifacts.

The outdoor portion of the fort is closed from November to March, but the visitor center and museum host events and activities all year. Stop by on Sunday for tabletop games or come by in the evening for Fort Meigs After Dark Lantern Tours.

The 577 Foundation

The foundation also hosts a variety of indoor and outdoor art classes, wellness courses and gardening events for young children and teens. The Curiosity Shop is packed with books, magazines and craft supplies for at-home art projects.

W.W. Knight Nature Preserve

Are your children itching to get outside? Take them to W.W. Knight Nature Preserve!

The preserve opens at 8 a.m. and closes half an hour after sunset, so you have plenty of time to explore, play and fish. There are several miles of hiking and walking trails and a pond for youth fishing (under 17).

Pack a picnic basket and have lunch at the shelter or let your kids burn some energy on the natural playscape. The staff hosts a free paddle board safety program on Mondays during the summer, too.

Riverside Park

Take Louisiana Avenue to the Maumee River and turn left onto West Front Street to find Riverside Park. The location offers beautiful scenic views of the river and is the perfect place to watch fireworks on July 3.
